Inside Line Promotions – CANTON, Ill. (June 10, 2019) – Kyle Schuett continues to show improvement during his rookie year as he charged forward to score his first podium finish in a sprint car feature last Saturday night at Spoon River Speedway during a Built Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Car Series event.

His notable effort was his third consecutive top-10 finish and followed a ninth-place run the prior evening at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa.

“We figured out a lot at (Lee County) and that helped us at Spoon River,” he said. “We were too free in our heat race at Donnellson (starting and finishing fifth) and we decided to take a big swing at it and tighten the car up a lot more than we originally planned. We started 14th in the feature and got up to eighth before I missed the rubber and got passed by a car. Then I found the rubber and finished ninth. Finding rubber on the race track is another thing that’s kind of new to us since we didn’t deal much with that racing a midget.”

Schuett carried what he learned to the following night at Spoon River Speedway and it paid dividends.

“We had a pretty good draw for our heat at Spoon River, but missed the setup a little,” said Schuett, who started fourth and finished third in the race. “So we tightened it up a lot again for the feature. Then we were able to roll right around the tires on the inside while a lot of the others were sliding in the middle of the track.

“We started ninth in the feature and got up to fifth by around Lap 5. Then we raced for fourth for quite a while until the third-place car dropped out. While we were racing for third, a lapped car spun right in front of me and I clipped him with my left front, bending my steering. We were able to hang on and finish third. Before we got damaged I think we had a car capable of finishing higher. You always like to finish higher, but we were probably fortunate to finish third with the damage.”

Schuett has shown solid improvement not only in driving, but in setting up his sprint car in just seven career starts.

“We’ve improved tremendously with our setup since the beginning of the year,” he said. “We’re totally different from where we thought we would be with that. Our Maxim is awesome. I feel fortunate to be driving one.”

Schuett is also thankful for the extra help he’s received at the track from a friend.

“I’d just like to say thanks to one of my buddies, Lucas Pejakovich, who has helped us quite a bit this year,” he said. “He’s been a huge help and has taken some of the load off of my dad.”

Schuett is considering competing in a micro sprint prior to the next scheduled MOWA Series events at the end of this month.

“Since we have a bit of a break with MOWA we might race the micro a bit during the upcoming POWRi Speedweek,” he said. “We don’t have any definite plans and we’ll probably take it night by night since we’ve been having some issues with the engine.”
