Inside Line Promotions – LINCOLN, Ill. (July 15, 2019) – Kyle Schuett battled handling issues and misfortune, but still managed to move forward in both the B Main and A Main with the Built Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Car Series last Friday night at Lincoln Speedway.

“This is probably the first night this year where we just struggled,” the sprint car rookie driver said. “We just missed it, not only with the setup but with me struggling behind the wheel. It was one of those deals where I was glad to be able to load the car in one piece at the end of the night and be done with it. I know we’re going to have those nights once in a while.”

Schuett found the track conditions challenging.

“We had raced at Lincoln before in our midget so we felt like we had kind of an idea what to expect,” he said. “But that was about three years ago. The track was packed in super tight from the moment we hit it in hot laps. It was really slick with nothing to get a hold of – no cushion or anything.”

An eighth-place starting position in his heat race wasn’t a good beginning to the night for Schuett.

“I didn’t want to overdrive the car going into the turn and hit the wall so I played it kind of conservative,” he said. “And the glare from the sun was really bad in turns three and four. I should’ve used some duct tape to help block it from my eyes, but I didn’t realize it until I was on the track. I was able to move up to fifth, but a couple of guys passed me with slide jobs and I couldn’t cut underneath them. I ended up finishing where I started in eighth.”

Things went better for Schuett in the B Main, in which he rolled off the starting grid sixth.

“I felt a lot more comfortable in the B Main,” he said. “We got the car better and it drove a lot better and we were able to finish third.”

Schuett tagged the A Main in the 19th starting spot.

“We were able to pass two cars in the first couple of laps and then the track took rubber,” he said. “It was follow the leader around the bottom with no passing after that and we finished 17th. We had a pretty decent car, but there wasn’t a whole lot I could do. But that’s sprint car racing. You can miss the show by eight spots one night and then run fifth the next night. It’s just that competitive.”

There is no racing scheduled for Schuett this week, but he’ll still be busy in the shop.

“We’re looking forward to having a weekend off and focusing on getting a second car ready for next month,” he said. “Then we plan to race with MOWA on July 26 at Jacksonville and the following night at Macon.”
