Inside Line Promotions – JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 7, 2019) – Kyle Schuett scored a pair of top-15 finishes racing with a highly competitive Built Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Car Series field last Friday and Saturday at Jacksonville Speedway.

“It was another learning weekend and definitely wasn’t the result we had hoped for,” he said. “But this was the most competitive weekend this year with MOWA, with a lot of good drivers who aren’t regulars like Rico (Abreu), (Buddy) Kofoid, (Skylar) Gee, (Hunter) Schuerenberg and others. Also, the track was much different than usual due to rain on both days.”

Schuett kicked off the doubleheader on Friday by rallying in his heat race following a poor draw and start.

“I started sixth out of seven cars and fell back to seventh because of the ruts in the first turn of the race,” he said. “I went to the bottom since no one else was there and was able to work my way up to fourth and was challenging for third at the finish.”

Schuett’s heat race effort slotted him in the 14th starting position in the A Main.

“We weren’t bad, but our car was just too free,” he said. “We probably should’ve detuned our motor a bit because I couldn’t get past half throttle the whole way around the track. I think I passed one car and finished 13th.”

A sponsor commitment with the Carle and Christie Clinic Wellness, Fun and Medicare 101 event with Health Alliance meant little sleep for Schuett and his team prior to Saturday night’s race.

“We finished up with the car after Friday night’s race around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning,” he said. “Then we left the shop at 6:30 a.m. for the sponsor event so it was a short night.”

Schuett had a better draw on Saturday and started second in his heat race.

“I started next to Kofoid, who was on the pole,” he said. “The track was wide open around the top. Where you were when you got to the top was where you finished. He beat me to the first turn and I went into second and that’s where I finished.”

Schuett started 11th in the A Main. Rain prior to the B Main presented a challenging surface for teams adjusting their cars for the night’s main event.

“We thought the track would hold more moisture after the rain, but it slicked off and we didn’t tighten our car up enough,” he said. “We were up to eighth before a red flag, but we fell back after that and finished 15th.”

Schuett finished the season third in the MOWA championship standings. He also earned the Rookie of the Year Award.
